The Building Blocks for Performance Excellence

“Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.”
– Will Rogers

Each aspect of the Path to Excellence Program has been carefully designed to support your organization in achieving its unique business goals. The resources and commitment you apply to understanding and adopting the proven best business practices in the Baldrige Excellence Framework will determine how far and fast your team’s journey to excellence goes.

Performance Excellence Step-By-Step

  1. Introduction to Baldrige Framework
Once you determine which individual(s) in your organization will lead the Performance Excellence effort, you are ready to build your knowledge about performance excellence. Our Introduction to Performance Excellence workshop introduces you to the concepts and principles of the Baldrige criteria. This workshop is designed to give applicants answers to questions about how to complete the application. It is offered on-site and throughout the year in various locations throughout the Pacific Northwest.
  2. Organizational Profile Development
Once you have started on the Performance Excellence path, it is important to understand how ready your organization is for the transformation you want to see. You’ll start by completing an Organizational Profile, which describes your organization’s purpose and other key aspects of how it delivers its products or services. You’ll begin to understand its strengths as well as opportunities for improvement based on the proven best business practices in the Baldrige Excellence Framework.
Organizational Profile Development Workshop In two half-day, in-house workshops, you’ll gain an understanding of your organization’s alignment with the Baldrige concepts. This facilitated workshop is tailored to the level of maturity and the size of your organization. In the first session, you’ll assess your business environment and core competencies to write your Organizational Profile. In the second, we’ll review what’s missing and address issues you don’t understand so you can fill in the gaps and complete the five-page document.
  3. Intent to Apply
Download, review and submit the Intent to Apply & Eligibility Determination Form. You will need to determine at this point whether you will submit a Lite or Full application.
  4. Submit Application
Before submitting your Lite or Full application, it’s important to have a good working understanding of the Baldrige criteria and how it applies to your organization. The written application, whether the Lite or Full, is used by PENW volunteer examiners to provide you with the best possible feedback to help you prioritize improvement strategies. If you would like more information about how to effectively write these applications, please contact us.
  5. Receive Feedback
All applicants receive a Feedback Report providing valuable insight about their organizations. The strengths and opportunities for improvement described in the report can be used as a management tool for planning, training, and implementing the organizations initiatives to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
  6. Get Briefed
Feedback reports, especially for organizations just starting to implement the business practices identified in the Baldrige Excellence Framework, can be overwhelming. To support your organization’s growth and ability to better understand the findings in the Feedback Report, PENW Examiners will reach out to applicants at the appropriate time to provide an executive briefing and answer questions regarding the assessment.
  7. Get Recognized
Lite applicants receive a Certificate of Commitment. Full applicants receive awards to recognize their level of achievement during our annual recognition event. This recognition is a significant honor and also provides an opportunity for you to acknowledge the work of your team and be recognized in your community.
